I am blogging for Lent. Pouring in not taking out by sending excerpts from my new book,
THE TOV HEART: God's Design for a Life Rooted in What Matters Most
If you are intrigued, you can order it from Amazon here THE TOV HEART
Whether you get your own copy of the book or not, it is my hope and prayer that you will be blessed and challenged to look for more with God - Father, Jesus, Holy Spirit. No matter how much you think you have, there is always MORE! Godspeed!
"Any true life of the spirit must be narrated as a story of God's search for humankind, not humankind's search for God." – Eugene Peterson, Praying with the Psalms
We’re all searching for something. Exactly what that something is depends on you. Who you’ve become and who you’re becoming.
Both are strongly influenced by life with your family and your own personal experience of joy, sorrow, desire, dreams, success, failure, pain, and trauma. Who you’ve become is singular. A messy, sophisticated blend of these influences and your personal responses to them. The choices you make to sin or not in the face of temptation or another’s sin around and against you.
Your something might be the “best.” The best fishing hole, the best deer stand location, the best chainsaw, or the best golf course. It might be the best new book, the best undiscovered piece of art, the best video game, or the best new song. It could even be the best cheesecake, the best steak, or the best beer.
Your something could be the “next.” The next job, the next spouse or girlfriend. The next vacation, the next adventure, or the next challenge or praise at home or at work.
Your something might simply be “relief.” Relief from pain, boredom, fear, stress, or loneliness.
Your something is probably a mix of the above, plus some. But one thing is certain: your something is as diverse as it is old. As diverse as each man born into the world. And as old as the thirst that has haunted men for generation upon generation.
As King Solomon put it,
“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” – Ecclesiastes 1:9
